How GSE evaluates a laboratory equipment request
- Normalize the requirement. Separate the desired outcome from inherited brand language and optional features.
- Identify the technical gate. Determine which specification, interface, material, environmental or documentation constraint decides whether an option is acceptable.
- Resolve the commercial package. Confirm the configuration, accessories, shipping assumptions and records included.
- Preserve open decisions. When a requirement cannot be verified from published literature, it remains an explicit quotation question rather than being guessed.
Total-use questions that belong in the RFQ
- Who installs and commissions the equipment?
- Is training required for one operator or a larger team?
- Will the instrument be moved between spaces?
- Are consumables, accessories or replacement parts required at launch?
- Does the buyer require a specific document package for vendor approval?
Buying and specification questions
Answers are intentionally scoped to the purchasing decision. Final engineering details, configuration, price and lead time are confirmed in the quotation and manufacturer documentation.
Can GSE source laboratory equipment that is not shown in the product catalog?
Yes. Submit the manufacturer/model when known, or provide the application, technical constraints and required documentation for an application-based review.
Does GSE quote installation or training?
Those items are configuration- and manufacturer-dependent. State the requested scope so it can be confirmed rather than assumed.
What should a university lab include in an RFQ?
Include the research or teaching use, required performance, compatibility, grant or budget timing, delivery location and any training or documentation needs.
How are equivalents evaluated?
Against explicit acceptance criteria. Visual similarity or a generic category match is not enough for technical equivalency.
